Why is Elmer so important to Doncaster Pride?
Elmer by David McKee was named an LGBTQ+ icon by The Guardian in 2014 with the books message of celebrating everyone’s true colours, acceptance and inclusivity. Elmer’s publisher Andersen Press are keen to celebrate Elmer’s place in the LGBTQ+ community and are thrilled we've joined the other 11 adopting organisations for this years Doncaster Trail.
Elmer's stories give a clear message to people of all ages that we should celebrate who we are and we think this is a great way for Doncaster Pride to round off our UK Pride Host City Year.
Doncaster Pride works tirelessly twelve months of the year to embed our message of inclusion and whilst our annual event in August is the visible and incredible demonstration of that message its important we continue to campaign for all the people of Doncaster to feel that our home town is a place where our similarities and differences are celebrated and not used to divide or exclude.

Being able to adopt Elfphant this year we feel is a great way to continue our work and we hope you'll all join in and experience the Elmer Art Trail in Doncaster in the coming weeks.
How can I get involved?
There are 12 Elmers across the City Centre and we invite you to get out and find them. Trail maps are downloadable from Doncaster Council Elmer Art Trail homepage Elmer's Art Trail- Doncaster's Winter Sculpture Trail or you can pick up a copy at the Tourist Information Shop on High Street or from Danum Gallery, Library and Museum.
Our Elmer is in a place that Doncaster Pride called home for a number of years, he's living his best life surrounded by culture, performance and film, and he can't wait to meet you all.
Once you find the Doncaster Pride Elmer we hope you'll take a selfie with him and please lets fill social media with all the Elmer's ... But lets make Elfphant stand out!
