This Saturday is the fourth annual Doncaster Pride and huge crowds are expected at the Racecourse for the event.
Since the first event in 2007 Pride has seen huge support and its massive growth has forced the decision to move what has been hailed “the fastest growing Pride in the UK,” to the Racecourse.
Pride events are a celebration for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community, their families, friends and supporters – but say organisers Doncaster Pride is much more than that. Pride Chairman Trevor Jones said “Pride is about inclusion, it’s about everyone feeling welcome to come along and join the party – no matter what their age, race, gender or sexuality. We want the people of Doncaster and South Yorkshire to come and join in what will be the best party of the year.”
The twelve hour event starts with a Walk of Unity from Elmfield Park and culminates with Sheffield based club sensations “Climax” who will host the after party. Sandwiched between this is a 7 hour live stage featuring Kelly Llorenna, Adam Rickitt, Liz McClarnon (Atomic Kitten), S Club and Toyah but to mention a few…. There is also an indoor acoustic stage featuring the very best local performers. There’s dance, fashion shows and a civil partnership event. A market, a fair, a children’s area and “999 Interactive” brings loads for families including the Police Dog Display Team, Firearms unit, SY Fire car extrication and much, much more.
Trevor concluded “Pride events are about inclusion, about reinforcing messages of equality and saying that today in 2010 we should not judge people based on their sexuality. We urge people to join us, bring the family, bring the kids and enjoy Doncaster’s biggest party of the year.”
